Olivier bruaux redacteur en chef www.cinephoto.fr www.ilovecinema.frSad news for Flemming’s secret agent’s fans as the composer of eleven of the James Bond franchise scores has died at the age of 77. Unfortunately, the author of many remarkable film scores will probably be remembered for one of the best recognizable movie signatures with the guitar introduction showing James Bond shooting in a blood circle towards the audience. Coming second could be his composition for the opening-credit for the tv-series The Persuaders!

Along with his five Oscars (Out Of Africa, Born free, Dances with wolves...), John Barry also won four Grammy awards in his carreer full of over a hundred melodies for tv series and movies.

A private ceremony will be held in England for his funeral.

"I think James Bond would have been far less cool without John Barry holding  his hand" declared fellow James Bond score composer David Arnold To BBC Radio.

"His achievement is a mightily calm atmosphere that can also be found in the James Bond character. For sure, an incredible elegance is conveyed by John Barry’s music" said movie score composer Alexandre Desplat, 30/01/2011 to French itélé, nominated for the best movie score Oscars (The King’s Speech en 2011) (our translation, ©)
